The Mist Movie Plot and My Review

In The Mist following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the 'The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see.

When I first went to see this movie I first thought it would be one of those typical horror movies with one giant monster that they keep hidden til your around the very end of the movie but was I ever pleasantly surprised about this one! There is not only 1 but numerous creatures that inhabit the mist and each one more interesting then the next! If you have read any of my other hubs you know what a Horror movie creature fanatic I am and after seeing this movie I thought it deserved a creature hub all of its own!

See all 17 photos

The Mist Spider

This creepy fellow has razor sharp teeth and is quite the jumper and when it captures you alive it lays eggs inside the hosts body. During the movie you see one man ripped apart when they hatch as all the baby spiders come spilling out! Gruesome yet Great!

The Mist Cockroach

This little guy is just one the many little creepy crawlers running around in the Mist, though I couldn't fins any information on him he is still note -worthy

The Mist Window Bug

The Window Bugs are drawn to the light inside the store they are all hiding in , however they make look innocent enough but once the glass is broken and they start to enter the store they towns people learn the hard way that a single bite from this bug is deadly. It makes your body swell up with in seconds till you cant breathe and then inevitably die.

The Mist Bird

The Bird is large and in charge! It has a gruesome beak that can cut, slice, and bite as it sees fit. The bird is first introduced to us by eating the window bugs when they are sitting on the window of the store but when one of the birds runs into the window breaking it and then falling through chaos is immediately created as the towns people do whatever they can to get the monster bird back outside!

The Mist Tentacles

We never get to see just who these vicious and deadly tentacles belong to but they certainly to leave a very big impression. The tentacles are the first life form we see in the mist that really prove to everyone that there are very scary creatures alive on the outside of the walls.

The Mist Big Beast

The Big beast can be barely seen walking in the mist but since in towers so high its easy to hide from this monster unlike many of the others but just try not to get crushed.

The Mist Mantis Monster

This creature is huge and during the movie you can really only see an outline of it in the mist but at one point you see it grab somone and tear them apart! With its giants Jaws and Claws this is a very scary creature indeed

Well documented. Although I never did enjoy the ending of the film (even though it was ironic), I finally get a chance to see how many creatures are there in the film. Good job.

Sounds like I'm the only one who thought the ending was inspired. Great movie.

Nice work! I thought the movie was creepy & intense. The nasty beasties were definately worthy of the article! The ending also left me really down - a horrible disturbing ending that was "perfect" in the sense that it left you with the "....." feeling. But, overall, I thought it was a good movie.

Excellent work on the baddies!

Call me sadistic, but i was absolutely amused at the ending. It doesnt turn out as the typical "happy ending". Loved it.

I will give the film credit for not having the "typical" happy ending, but since there was a kid involved the ending just rubbed me the wrong way

Those look like something from a nightmare some kid might have

Oh I loved the movie and I just finished the book. I have to do a book report about it and make some creative box with pictures and stuff that remind me of it, and I'm drawing the creatures for the outside of the box , so your pictures were very handy, thanks ! :)

I've read the book before. It looks like the movie is just as gruesome as the book, possibly more so. I don't remember the mist spiders laying eggs in people in the book, although I could certainly imagine them doing that. The Mist Mantis reminds me of the Xenomorph from Alien, and it kind of looks like something from Half-Life. The Tentacles look vaguely like something from Half-Life as well. It is pretty gruesome how the tentacles eat that bag-boy even as they drag him off.

Gordon Freeman would have squished all these creatures beneath his heel. I suppose having an HEV suit helps. That and a shotgun. I remember what he did to the tentacles in Half-Life- "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the rocket propulsion test chamber!"

I much preferred the short story by Stephen King called "The Mist" that this came from. I'm not sure why, but it was always one of my favorite short stories and the movie sort of put everything out there and left little to the imagination. I'm kind of a geek that way, in that I picture things much better in my head than can typically be realized using special effects.

absolutely brilliant movie. I can honestly say the

movie has done complete justice to the book.

If not for the monsters in this film, the acting alone would've made it an Oscar calibre film. The ending was the single best thing about this movie. As a writer I look to trap my readers or audience in this case, and that's what was done. It pulled tightly at your heartstrings and didn't let go. Whether it was amusement, depression, anger, or sadness, you felt something. And that's what matters. The ending of the film left a lasting impression on me for a long time, even still today. Great movie. And great article.

Mr Phoenix, apparently Half-life was inspired by the novella "The Mist." In fact, I hear that the working title, or the original title of Half-life was going to be "Quiver," after the Arrowhead Project. So, you're not wrong in spotting the similarities!

Mist cochroachs are baby mist spiders. And the tentacles belong to the big beast... Their not seperate creatures.
